How to Prevent Hair fall ?

Before we know how to prevent hair fall first we know what hair fall is.

Hair fall is a common problem which affects large number of people across the world. It is also known as alopecia. We generally find that a few strands of hair fall during the process of washing, drying, brushing and combing. But the matter is serious if hair fall is severe. 

To identify whether you suffer from hair fall problem or not, take a small bunch of 20-30 hairs and hold it between your thumb and index finger. Pull slowly and firmly. If more than six hairs come out at the same time, you may suffer from hair fall problem.

Hair fall can occur at any age and can happen on the head as well as on other parts of the body. Reasons for hair fall can be genetics, aging, diseases, stress, hormonal changes, lack of proper nutrition, lack of sufficient sleep and less consumption of water. Various other reasons for hair fall are the problems of scalp region which include dryness, flaking, dandruff etc.

There different types of hair fall like Androgenic hair fall (it occurs due to Hormones and genetics), Toxic hair fall (it occurs due to physical or emotional stress), Alopecia areata (it occurs due to a skin disorder which causes hair on the affected skin areas to fall), Alopecia universalis or totalis ( hair from everywhere including eyebrows and eyelashes is lost).

Now the big question how to prevent hair fall needs to be answered.

1. Healthy Diet:

Having a healthy body will have more healthy hair than an unhealthy body. Taking proper nutrients will help you in preventing hair loss and will keep your scalp healthy. Sufficient intake of nutrients like Iron, Protein, Vitamin C, Omega 3 fatty acids, Biotin and Zinc can definitely help in preventing or minimizing hair loss. These nutrients are essential for strong and healthy hair; also they prevent hair from becoming dry and brittle. Following food items are a good source of above mentioned nutrients:
Carrots: Vitamin-A rich.
Prunes: Full of iron.
Oats: Rich in fiber, zinc, iron, and omega-6 fatty acids.
Sea Food: Loads of Vitamin B12, iron, zinc.
Walnut: Rich in B-vitamins as well as iron, zinc.
In addition to the above diet following points can also be followed.
a. Consume nearly 9 to 10 glasses of water every day.
b. Consume fluids like coconut juice, lime juice and buttermilk for hair nourishment.
c. Fruits and green vegetables are necessary for healthy hair.
d. Almonds are wonder for having great hair. Just soak 8-10 almonds water over a night and eat in the morning without removing the skin.

Do not eat raw egg whites as store bacteria that can harm you, raw egg whites contain a substance that binds biotin and prevents its absorption.

2. Control your stress:
Stress damages all of our body and hair is no exception. Hair fall can indicate high level of stress. The thought of hair fall itself in turn causes worry and anxiety which leads to more hair fall.
World over doctors prescribe meditation and yoga for overcoming stress because meditation can restore hormonal balance in our bodies. This only prevents hair fall but also helps in other aspects of life.
Get proper sleep for good health. Do exercise regularly as physical activity improves blood circulation which helps in improving for your scalp.

1.    Do not dyer/heat your hair frequently as heat weakens hair proteins. Constant heating and drying can lead to brittleness and fragility that causes hair loss.

3.    Do not go for hair styles that require tight pulling and elastics, clips, etc. as this can be a cause of hair loss if done on a daily basis. Avoid layering hair cuts that lose a lot of your hair.
4.    Do wash your hair properly and regularly to keep your hair and scalp clean with mild shampoo only. This prevents the chances of infections that might cause hair loss.
5.    Do not brush wet hair as this pulls out a lot of hair that could still be growing. If you have to comb wet hair then use a very wide-toothed comb.  
6.    Do not rub your hair vigorously with a towel after washing it. This can also lead to hair breakage.
7.    Do not fall prey eye-trick ads which shows protein-enhanced shampoos and conditioners. They only make your hair smoother and thicker temporarily because they fill in gaps on the hair.
